A 50-year-old man, Fillipus Shavuka Nyanyukweni Hango, has died after attempting to rescue another man from a water well.
According to Omusati regional commander Commissioner Ismael Basson, the two men, along with a third individual, were removing mud from the well when one of them lost consciousness, possibly due to a lack of oxygen, and fell into the water. Hango entered the well to save the unconscious man and fell in himself.
When the police arrived, both men were rescued from the well, still alive but in critical condition. They were rushed to Okahao District Hospital, where Hango tragically passed away upon arrival. The survivor was later transferred to Oshakati State Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
