Swapo Party Vice President and presidential candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says poverty alleviation, hunger, and drought interventions are receiving attention from the government, which has set a budget of N$825 million for the drought programme for 2024-2025.

She made this assurance at a star rally at Opuwo in the Kunene Region.

"Drought is another area where we are investing money, particularly in this region. You know that as a government, we have now increased our drought money. In order to save all of you. And we know in Kunene, over 35,000 households are in need of food support, and definitely the programme has started, and the programme will continue until we have our weather back and hopefully be able to grow our own food."

To mitigate drought effects mini desalination plants are being constructed in the region.

Nandi-Ndaitwah added that over 39,000 residents receive government grants.

The government is also still working on implementing the entire Veterans Bill Act.

"These things are clearly stipulated in our election manifesto, similarly, we will not forget our most vulnerable. These are our pensioners, vulnerable children, people with disabilities, and of course our veterans."

1,200 people joined Swapo Party at the event.
