The rehabilitation of the Namutoni Road in the Oshikoto Region is set to start next week, following an agreement signed between the Roads Authority and the Tsumeb Municipality.
The 5.5-kilometre Namutoni Road will be rehabilitated for N$23 million.
"It's quite an expensive exercise. If I have to look at the distance and the millions that have been spent. Now I understand why everybody is flocking to infrastructure and road construction. The benefits of this road will be felt far and wide. It will ease the travelling, facilitate trade, and provide safer, quicker access to essential services. For our local businesses, it means new opportunities to reach customers and suppliers."
Road Fund Administration Strategy and Project Officer, Jonas Kafidi, assured the ministry that the fund will pay more attention to town network roads.
"We have increased the budget allocation for the local authorities in total countrywide from N$166 million that was allocated in the financial year that ended in February this year to a good N$434 million in this current financial year. This is the portion; part of it has been allocated to the town of Tsumeb; a good N$19 million has been allocated this year to Tsumeb municipality, and this is the funding that is going to be used on the rehabilitation of this road plus a bit more other roads."
Nexus will start construction work on the Namutoni Road next week, and completion is estimated within six months.
