The SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) for Namibia's 2024 Presidential and National Assembly Elections was launched in Windhoek today.
SADC member states have contributed personnel and resources to constitute the teams of observers under the SEOM.
The observation mission has a total of 65 observers drawn from eight SADC member states, namely: the Kingdom of Eswatini, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania.
The observers will be deployed across all 14 regions of Namibia.
The Head of the Electoral Observer Mission, Anne Semamba Makinda, has urged all stakeholders to give some time to the SEOM observers as they move across Namibia to obtain a clear view of the electoral process.
Makinda pointed out that Namibia has a strong tradition of peaceful and tolerant elections, and this must be maintained for the long-term viability of the country and as an example to be emulated by others.
She also urged all Namibians who made the effort to register to vote to also turn out to vote peacefully on Wednesday and remain committed to peace in the post-election period.
