The Speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi, received a high-level delegation from Saudi Arabia at Parliament today.

Sheikh Taleb Saud Abdullah discussed the possibility of stronger cooperation between Namibia and Saudi Arabia during the courtesy visit.

Sheikh Taleb owns 54 companies worldwide and is an advisor to Saudi oil company Aramco, which has developed several islands, airports, hotels, and investments in Dubai.

He praised Professor Katjavivi's clear and straightforward explanation, which he said avoided unnecessary politics.

Sheikh Taleb also highlighted Namibia's untapped tourism potential.

Professor Katjavivi highlighted the economic potential of newly discovered resources, such as oil and gas, which could significantly boost Namibia's economy.

He stressed the need for Namibia to focus on adding value to these resources locally rather than exporting them in their raw form.

The National Assembly Speaker called for increased collaboration between Namibia and Saudi Arabia, believing that working together will help maximise the benefits of these valuable resources.

The media was excused from the presentation of gold and oil EPLs to Shaikh.
