The Council of Churches in Namibia (CCN) aided more than 200 destitute families and pensioners at Gobabis with food parcels.
The region recorded several malnutrition cases this year.
CCN's chairperson of the Executive Committee, Heinz Mouton, stated that the Council decided to lend a helping hand as most families have been affected by the drought.
Reverend Mouton added there is a need for stakeholders to strengthen their collaboration to find a permanent solution to food insecurity.
"We call for an increase in the distribution of food, water, and other essential resources to the most affected communities in Omaheke and beyond; no one should go to bed hungry during this time. We call for sustainable solutions that need to be prioritised to encourage drought-resistant practices. Water harvesting infrastructure and community resilient programmes. Together, we must reduce the devastating effects of future droughts."
Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate welcomed the gesture, saying, "The solidarity shown by my two brothers here and their staff is a welcome step. We thank you so much, and I hope that this spirit, especially when we are going to Christmas, will be there. We don't give each other tombo, but we also give each other food. And also, if we don't address things like misuse of alcohol and aid, we are not going to fight hunger."
