Road accidents claimed the lives of 80 people between November 15 and January 5, according to the Namibian Police.
Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi revealed that 472 crashes were recorded during this period, resulting in 918 injuries.
“Contributing factors include driver fatigue, drunk driving, speeding, reckless and negligent driving, as well as the disregard for traffic regulations,” Shikwambi said.
Law enforcement intensified efforts during the holiday season, issuing 1,867 warnings and over 12,000 summonses. Additionally, 657 vehicles were suspended from the roads for failing to meet safety standards.
Shikwambi urged drivers to prioritize safety.
