The High Court is set to hear testimonies from Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and incarcerated former Justice Minister Sacky Shanghala as part of activist Job Amupanda’s legal challenge seeking to abolish the veterinary cordon fence, widely known as the Red Line.

Nandi-Ndaitwah, in her dual capacity as Vice President and former Minister of International Relations, is expected to address claims that dismantling the red line would conflict with international agreements.

These agreements, according to the government, play a critical role in Namibia’s beef exports.

Shanghala, who is currently in custody awaiting trial in the Fishrot corruption case, has been summoned to testify in his former role as Chairperson of the Law Reform Commission.

Amupanda has committed to covering the transport costs for both witnesses. The two witnesses face a potential fine of N$4,000 for contempt of court if they fail to comply with the subpoenas.

The case is scheduled to start on Monday, 20 January.
