Namibia on Friday reaffirmed its support for Palestine and called for global action against Israel's violations of international law.
Speaking at a high-level meeting at The Hague, Minister of Justice Yvonne Dausab condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza despite the ceasefire agreement between the two parties and urged nations to take decisive measures to hold Israel accountable.
Minister Dausab criticized international institutions, including the UN Security Council, for failing to act due to the influence of states that "blindly support Israel as an occupying power without consequences."
On Friday, Dausab confirmed Namibia's decision to join South Africa in its case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, seeking accountability for what she described as genocidal crimes against the Palestinian people.
"Namibia is proud to be part of this moment where we reaffirm that the right to self-determination is central to human rights. Our longstanding solidarity with Palestine will not waver until its people enjoy the benefits of an independent state."
She also highlighted Namibia's action in August 2024, when it revoked permission for the vessel MB Katrin, suspected of carrying military cargo to Israel, to dock in Namibian waters.
She called on other nations to take similar steps in line with international law and ICJ rulings.
"When future generations inquire about our contribution to Palestine's right to self-determination, our response must be that we took concrete measures—or we will be remembered as leaders who watched and did nothing."
Namibia has consistently championed global justice, Dausab added, emphasizing the country's support for all people facing struggles for peace and autonomy.
She welcomed efforts by various UN bodies to hold Israel accountable and urged states to ensure those responsible for human rights violations are brought to justice.
"While we welcome the ceasefire and the progress made in releasing detainees on both sides, every effort must be made to de-escalate the violence and this brutal war. The hope for peace and security for the women, men, and children of Palestine must not be compromised."
