Floodwaters have begun to affect some areas in the Kabbe South and Kabbe North constituencies.
Typically, the western floodplains of the Zambezi Region experience flooding from February to mid-March during normal flood years. However, last year, these regions did not see any floods because many channels connecting the Zambezi and Chobe rivers were either too low or completely dry.
Over the weekend, roads to areas such as Mbalasinte, Kasika, Namiyundu, Nakuntwe, Nsundwa, and Ikaba became impassable due to floodwaters filling the streams and low-lying areas.
Additionally, some villages in Luhonono and Malindi in Kabbe North are currently flooded and continue to receive more water.
If the Zambezi River continues to rise from its current level of 4.50 meters, Ivilivinzi and parts of Ihaha may become inaccessible by road by the end of this week.
At the same time last year, the Zambezi River was at a level of 1.53 meters, indicating a significant difference of 2.97 meters.
Kabbe North Constituency Councillor Bernard Sisamu informed NBC News on Monday that he plans to assess the affected areas this week to better understand the flood situation, as he has been out of the region for the past two weeks.
