The Popular Democratic Movement MP Winnie Moongo is concerned about the mushrooming of nursing and health training institutions in Namibia.
Moongo said the number of these institutions is growing rapidly, faster than ever before.
She is worried about the quality of teaching and how these schools are being assessed.
Moongo explained that the system that controls these training schools is not working well.
Some people are opening health training schools as businesses through the Ministry of Trade and Industry, but they are not properly checked to see if their services are good or safe for the public.
She said this problem allows people to make money from nursing training without following proper procedures, stressing that this could impact the quality of healthcare training in Namibia.
She expressed particular concern about qualifications being awarded by unaccredited institutions, criticising the Namibia Qualifications Authority, saying many training schools do not have full approval.
Some institutions even trick students by saying they are working on getting approval, but they are not yet fully accredited.
Another PDM Member of Parliament, Rosa Mbinge-Tjeundo, agreed with Moongo.
She called for an urgent check on these health training schools, especially as many new ones are opening all over the country.
The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Esperance Luvindao, replied to the motion.
"That we move to discuss this motion two weeks after the relevant discussions have taken place with the relevant ministers and stakeholders in order to bring a solution to the problem."
