Green schemes like Sikondo in the Kavango West Region are proving to be vital for communities living in the surrounding area, particularly during harvesting season.

It's potato harvesting season at Sikondo, and the place is buzzing with both machines and people.

During this time of the year, even the local residents know that chances of getting a part-time job are fruitful.

The green scheme is able to mechanise everything if they wanted to, but that would mean a number of locals would be left without temporary jobs.

Not only do the green schemes have an interesting way of dealing with wastage, but they are also committed to having locals enjoy what is homegrown.

The green scheme will take about two months to harvest the mondial potato, a variety they have been producing for around 13 years.
