The Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust's (NFCPT) gala dinner held in Rundu raised more than N$324,000.
The money will be used for educational and social development projects in the Kavango East Region.
Governor Hamunyera Hambyuka said the funds will make a significant difference in empowering children from the region.
"To address critical educational needs in our host region, including classrooms, hostels, desks, computers and other essential school resources."
The Chairperson of the Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust, Susan Ndjaleka, said benefits derived from the country's fisheries resources should be shared equitably, especially in Kavango East, where education represents both a challenge and an opportunity.
"The fisheries sector must be more than an economic driver. It must be a partner in shaping the leaders by supporting the schools, strengthening feeding programmes and collaborating with local leadership to uplift education. We can contribute by ensuring that our children not only consume this fish but also grow into capable innovators, capable professionals and capable nation builders."
Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare Emma Kantema read the Prime Minister's speech on his behalf, where he encouraged the consumption of fish.
"The Kavango East Regional Council, through its Education Directorate, should integrate fish into school feeding programmes and hostel menus at least twice a week. By doing so, we will not only improve the health and concentration ability of learners but also cultivate a culture of healthy eating from an early age. A schoolchild nourished with fish is a child better equipped to learn, to grow, and to succeed."
The Director of Education in Kavango East, Christine Shilima, said the money raised will go a long way towards meeting the needs of the region's learners.
"Your contributions go beyond numbers and figures. They represent an investment in the future of our children and in the development of our nation. As a region, we continue to face challenges in ensuring equitable access to quality education. Many of our learners come from disadvantaged backgrounds, yet they carry the dreams and potential for tomorrow."
