The National Democratic Party (NDP) has launched its manifesto for the Katima Mulilo local authority elections.
Its national spokesperson, Rasboom Mwemba, said the party has a strategic plan for the Katima Mulilo local authority to implement.
NDP plans to write off all debts accumulated by the residents in rates and taxes over the years.
Mwemba said there is also a need for equal distribution of land to all residents, as well as the creation of recreational and ablution facilities in town and other locations.
"We also have to make some parks where people will be relaxing; water is just on our doorstep, and the town must reclaim its status as an evergreen place. So Katima Mulilo should be evergreen; everything here will be evergreen."
NDP also wants to construct a two-kilometre bitumen-standard road every year around town until the whole town is covered, in a period of five years.
The party also aims to resolve the sewer overflow issue by ensuring that the sewer, water, and electricity infrastructure are established before residents are assigned plots in any location.
"We have realised that maladministration and corruption are taking place in the Katima Mulilo open market. The Katima Mulilo open market generates millions of dollars, yet if you visit it now, you will find it unfit for eating or cooking due to the overwhelming presence of flies, rubbish, and sewage. And they are failing even to renovate it; it is dilapidating."
Mwemba further noted that NDP will prioritise stormwater drainage infrastructure and install free public Wi-Fi throughout the town.
The party further plans to acquire land for urban agriculture, hand over the Katima Mulilo Open Market to an independent board to manage it, and build an international bus terminal in town.
