President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged local authorities and residents to work together to improve service delivery.

She says strong partnerships will help promote unity and collaboration, leading to lasting solutions for challenges affecting local development.

Speaking at the official opening of the 18th Helao Nafidi Business Expo on Saturday, President Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed concern over ongoing conflicts between local authorities and residents, saying such disputes delay service delivery and weaken community trust.

"I have observed with concern the conflicts that sometimes arise between local authorities and residents in many parts of our country. These conflicts delay service delivery and weaken community trust. Let us build partnerships, not divisions. Let us find practical and lasting solutions to challenges that compromise local development. Without collaboration and understanding, there will be no winner; both the community and the council will lose. Remember, unity is strength."

The President also emphasised the importance of cross-border trade and cooperation, noting that Helao Nafidi's strategic location, adjacent to Angola's border, presents unique opportunities for economic growth.

She encouraged residents and business owners to maintain peace and strengthen regional ties.

"This Expo, therefore, presents a unique opportunity to strengthen business ties and promote regional growth through the movement of people, goods, services, and knowledge. You can choose a friend, but you cannot choose a brother or sister, just like you cannot choose a neighbour. There is a lot we can benefit from all our neighbours, including Angola, and also our neighbours have a lot to benefit from us. As your President, I want to see good neighbourhood relations along our borders."

Hosted under the theme "Ignite the Future: Unleashing Youth Potential and Innovation at the Heart of Helao Nafidi Town", this year's Expo was shortened from the usual seven days to three due to budget constraints.

Helao Nafidi Mayor Darius Shaalukeni said the Expo plays a vital role in driving the local economy forward.

"Events like this are essential for building stronger trade connections, stimulating investment and inspiring innovation, all of which help create jobs, strengthen our economy and ensure the long-term growth and sustainability of Helao Nafidi."

The business expo ends on Sunday.
