The life of the late Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) board Chairperson Theo Mberirua was honoured at a memorial service at the MTC headquarters on Thursday evening.

Mberirua died last week Thursday after a short illness. He was aged 63.

Hundreds of mourners attended the memorial service to reminisce on Mberirua's life.

Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) Leader McHenry Venaani, speaking in his capacity as a family member, described the deceased as a staunch corporate executive, a family man and a great farmer.

"I must say that Namibia has lost an illustrious business leader. A very dedicated member of our society that always upholds the values of corporate governance. He will always remind him that you guys don't talk about the case report. So he really opened my eyes on a number of things in the corporate world. That is what Theo was to us."

Mberirua served on the boards of many institutions, including Standard Bank and Air Namibia, among others.

At MTC, he is lauded for steering the company to heightened growth and contributing to its stability.

MTC's board member Werner Schuckmann in his speech said, "We celebrate the life of a remarkable leader, a dedicated friend whose soul touched countless lives. As we come to terms with the passing of Theo Mberirua. On behalf of MTC, the board, the management and all employees, and all who had the privilege of working alongside Theo Mberirua, we extend our deepest condolences to the family."

He will be buried on Saturday at Omaihi Village in the Okakarara Constituency.
