With the start of the school year, heavy traffic has become a daily occurrence as learners are dropped off and picked up from schools.
Superintendent and Spokesperson for the Windhoek City Police, Macelline Murapo, has urged motorists to prioritise the safety of learners and adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
Motorists are cautioned against reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicating substances and are reminded to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy.
"Always ensure that children are dropped off within the school zone where possible; walk them to the yard or even up to the classrooms. Educate children about the dangers of playing near roads and busy areas. Teach them where to walk and how to cross the road safely if they must walk to school. Whenever possible, do not let young children walk alone to school. The safety of every child is a shared responsibility. She added
