Thousands of Namibian children will receive shoes over the next three years through Project Never Walk Alone's nationwide rollout targeting regions with high numbers of barefoot learners.
The initiative aims to assist 31,500 children between 2026 and 2028, according to the organisation's media release.
In 2026, 10,000 pairs will go to the Oshana, ||Kharas, Otjozondjupa, and Omusati regions previously underserved by the project.
For 2027, 11,500 children in Ohangwena, Kavango East, Kavango West, and Kunene will benefit, with Kavango East receiving 4,000 pairs and the others 2,500 each. The Kavango East currently has over 14,000 barefoot children.
In 2028, 10,000 more children in the Ohangwena, |Khomas, Kavango East, and Hardap regions are targeted.
The three-year budget, comprising N$3.92 million in 2026, N$4.6 million in 2027, and N$4.4 million in 2028, totals N$12.92 million.
The organisation says a lack of shoes affects school attendance and participation.
Since its inception, the project has aided 12,750 children in regions including Zambezi, Kunene, Kavango East and West, |Khomas, Omaheke, Erongo, Hardap, and Ohangwena.
