Construction of Richard Muhinda Street and Soweto Street in Katima Mulilo is expected to cost over N$13.7 million.

The two roads measure 1.6 km combined and are bitumen standard; they are expected to be completed in six months. In contrast, the Lifasi Road upgrade, which spanned 800 metres, cost more and took four years to complete.

Katima Mulilo Mayor Kabende Kabende stressed that contractors should have cost-effective assessments to ensure that there are no delays, as they are feeder roads that connect to the CBD and will serve to alleviate pressure on the existing roads.

According to the contractors, Ndakalimwe Investment CC, the construction itself will commence on Monday (16 February) to allow for a traffic plan, considering that construction will take place in a residential area.

During the site handover, project consultant Dr Patrice Urayeneza noted that Soweto Street had about 6-metre-deep holes that will have to be rehabilitated by a previous contractor on the road before road construction can begin on this particular road.
