President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has commended Africa's largest airline, Ethiopian Airlines, for empowering women in the aviation sector.

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah made the remarks while welcoming the all-female crew from Addis Ababa as part of the airline's 80th anniversary and International Women's Day commemorations.

The President, joined by First Gentleman Epaphras Ndaitwah, Vice President Lucia Witbooi, Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare, and cabinet ministers, welcomed the all-female Ethiopian Airlines crew at Hosea Kutako International Airport.

"Ethiopian Airlines stands as a shining example of African excellence, discipline, and innovation," she said. "The 8th administration has promised the Namibian people to bring back our national airline. We look forward to learning from Ethiopian Airlines, and we have a strong base, as some Namibian pilots are trained in Ethiopia."

The Head of State further said Namibia reaffirms its commitment to ensuring women and girls enjoy equal rights and opportunities in all spheres of life.

"Our country has enacted laws and policies aimed at protecting the rights and dignity of women and promoting gender equality," she added. "These include the Combating of Domestic Violence Act, the Affirmative Action (Employment) Act, and other national policies that seek to create a society where women and girls can thrive without fear, discrimination, or limitation."

The day was celebrated under the theme "Rights, Justice, Action, For All Women and Girls".

The airline chose to host the commemoration in Namibia, deeming it fitting for a country led by a woman.
