The Independent Patriots for Change has cautioned against a proposal by Deputy Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs Charles Mubita to raise monthly allowances for liberation struggle veterans from two thousand two hundred dollars to five thousand, calling for fiscal responsibility and equity.
IPC shadow minister Alosius Kangulu says the current budget makes no provision for a hike.
Dr. Mubita raised this during the 2026/27 budget debates, arguing that the current amount has remained unchanged for 18 years despite rising living costs and poor conditions among many veterans.
In a statement, IPCs shadow minister Alosius Kangulu emphasised honouring veterans' sacrifices but warned that unequal benefits among those who fought for the same cause undermine fairness.
The party raised concerns over apparent misalignment within the Ministry, questioning whether the Minister and Deputy Minister speak with one voice.
This he says leaves veterans without the clarity they deserve.
The liberation struggle, Kangulu said, was never divided and the dignity and support given to those who took part in it should not be divided either.
He demanded harmonisation of benefits with transparency, consistency and rise above personal interests.
IPC insisted any increase must go through Parliament for proper debate, costing, and sustainable funding, rather than political platforms that risk "false hope" and populism.
The statement also noted that Namibia's economic challenges demand discipline, with clear plans for funding and implementation.
Beyond allowances, IPC advocated comprehensive support like healthcare, housing, and economic empowerment for veterans' dignity.
