The Okongo Village Council launched its five-year strategic plan, outlining key priorities aimed at accelerating development and improving service delivery in the town.
Among the plan's focus areas is the vision to transform Okongo into an attractive agricultural centre, alongside other key development priorities.
The Chairperson of the Ohangwena Village Council, Efraim Lebeus, said the strategic plan marks an important step towards unlocking the town's development potential.
"This document articulates the vision of transforming Okongo into a developed and attractive agricultural town driven by sustainability and smart services."
The strategic plan focuses on infrastructure development, environmental sustainability, effective service delivery, socio-economic development, good governance, and financial stability.
Okongo Village Council's Chief Executive Officer, Jackson Muma, said the council will ensure the strategic plan is shared with stakeholders and potential investors to align with the town's long-term vision.
Muma also highlighted challenges such as limited financial resources and undeveloped land, noting that these remain key obstacles to the town's development.
"When it comes to land, you would see that there are spaces in town that are fully serviced and allocated to individuals and business people; however, these spaces have been there for more than ten years, undeveloped. That is one of the challenges because we would want to see things. We don't just want to say we have allocated you land and you are not working on it. What we have done is we have come up with a land allocation policy; it was approved recently, and we are implementing it."
The village council has a population of 3,564.
