The Otjozondjupa Police Spokesperson and Community Liaison Officer, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, has urged travellers to obey road traffic rules during the Easter weekend as traffic volumes increase on major routes.

Mbeha says traffic remains heavy between Okahandja, Otjiwarongo and Otavi, with many travellers heading to the northern parts of the country. Between 12:25 and 13:27 on Thursday, 408 vehicles were recorded at the Otjiwarongo roadblock.

She has advised motorists to exercise patience, especially in the wet conditions between Otjiwarongo and Otavi, where roads are slippery. Drivers are also urged to maintain a safe following distance and remain extra vigilant.

Pedestrians have been encouraged to wear reflective clothing when walking along roads to reduce the risk of accidents.

Senior Inspector Mbeha further urged the public to safeguard their homes and property during the holiday period, while noting that police visibility will be intensified on roads and in towns across the region.

She says road safety is a shared responsibility and calls on the public to work together to ensure a safe Easter weekend.
