International Relations and Trade Minister Selma Ashipala-Musavyi has called on Chinese businesses to deepen trade ties by investing in value addition to Namibia’s natural resources.
She made the remarks during a roundtable and networking engagement in Shenzhen, China.
Ashipala-Musavyi highlighted opportunities across key sectors, including agriculture, mining, energy, manufacturing, and tourism.
China remains one of Namibia’s top trading partners, with trade increasing from over N$19 billion in 2019 to nearly N$24 billion in 2024.
However, the Minister noted an imbalance, with Namibia exporting mainly raw materials while importing finished goods. She urged investors to support industrialisation and value addition.
She also highlighted Namibia’s political stability and its role as a regional logistics hub, pointing to opportunities in renewable energy, including green hydrogen, as well as oil and gas.
The Minister encouraged Chinese businesses to invest in Namibia and benefit from market access under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
