The Ministry of Health and Social Services held a memorial service for the three staff members who died in a car accident on 1 May while on official duty.
The staff members were travelling in a minibus transporting patients from Khorixas District Hospital to Katutura Intermediate Hospital when the vehicle collided with a truck after the driver allegedly attempted to avoid a kudu.
The crash claimed 11 lives, including two nurses and the driver.
Rebekka Ndeuya Kasheeta was a registered nurse from Omboto in Omuthiya, and Martha Hangolonde was an enrolled nurse from Windhoek. Metusalem Kamendu was the mortuary attendant and driver of the bus.
Other community members who died in the fatal crash were residents of Khorixas, Kamanjab and Fransfontein.
The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Esperance Luvindao, said the ministry will ensure support for the families with counselling, emotional support, and dignified burials.
