President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says Africa's future depends on unity, regional cooperation and homegrown solutions as the continent commemorates Africa Day 2026.

In her Africa Day message, Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah said the occasion honours the sacrifices and solidarity that shaped Africa's liberation struggle and led to the formation of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963.

She said Africa must increasingly pursue African solutions to African challenges amid growing global economic, climate and public health pressures.

The president highlighted the African Continental Free Trade Area as key to strengthening intra-African trade and reducing dependence on external markets.

Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah also stressed the importance of this year's Africa Day theme focused on sustainable water availability and sanitation to achieve Agenda 2063 goals, saying water security remains critical to public health, economic growth and sustainable development.

The Head of State reaffirmed Namibia's commitment to improving access to clean water and sanitation while urging Africans to work together toward a peaceful, prosperous and self-reliant continent.
