Erongo Region's Governor Nathalia |Goagoses says the region has recorded significant development gains over the past year, including a decline in unemployment and major investment in infrastructure, water provision and youth empowerment.

Delivering her second State of the Region Address, |Goagoses reported that unemployment in the region, which stood at 32% in 2025, is projected to decline to 30%.

She attributed the progress to a strong partnership between government, communities, the private sector and development partners under the theme "One Region, One Vision".

Among the major milestones announced was the upgrading of Uis from settlement status to a local authority, making it the eighth local authority in the Erongo Region.

The Erongo Region Council, she added, is constructing an N$8.5 million bulk water pipeline in the town.

"Cognisant of this development, the Regional Council is investing N$1 million to develop an Infrastructure Master Plan for the Uis Local Authority to guide and coordinate sustainable investment in basic infrastructure over the medium to long term 2.  Through the Build Together Project, seven houses have been completed, with two more to be completed in Omatjete at the end of this month. An additional 10 houses are under construction in Uis and 17 in Otjimbingwe. In total, 41 houses will be delivered by the end of this year."

The governor also announced that the 31-kilometre Ozondati-Omatjete bulk water pipeline has been completed at a cost of 32 million, improving water access and laying the foundation for Omatjete's future development.

Housing delivery also featured prominently, with 41 Build Together houses expected to be completed this year in Omatjete, Uis and Otjimbingwe.

Although the pace of development has been somewhat satisfactory, it has become imperative for the regional leadership to source and mobilise additional funding to spur economic development in the region. To this end, efforts to revive the Erongo Development Fund are at an advanced stage. I therefore implore our development partners, public enterprises, the private sector, and individual businesses to contribute funds to this noble cause."

She said the region remains committed to positioning itself as a hub for investment and innovation while ensuring that economic growth translates into jobs and improved living standards for residents.
