South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal is expected to deliver its judgement tomorrow in the case concerning the repatriation of former President Edgar Lungu's remains to Zambia.

The court reserved judgement after hearing submissions on May 29, 2026.

The family appealed to the Supreme Court of Appeal after the Gauteng High Court ordered that the late Lungu's body be repatriated to Zambia following a successful application by the Zambian government.

Lungu died in South Africa in June 2025, where he was receiving medical treatment.

Since then the government of Zambia and his immediate family have been in court for his burial rites.

Despite all efforts to resolve the matter through mediation, the family remained adamant, insisting that they were honouring his wishes.
