President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to participate in the 9th Southern African Customs Union (SACU) Summit of Heads of State and Government.
The summit is scheduled to take place on 26 June 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa.
The summit will bring together Heads of State and government, as well as representatives from the five SACU member states – Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, and the host, South Africa – to deliberate on key issues relating to regional economic integration, industrial development, and trade cooperation.
As the summit is SACU's highest decision-making body, the summit provides strategic and political direction to the organisation, sets its priorities, and oversees the implementation of its programmes and initiatives.
The 9th SACU Summit is expected to consider several strategic matters aimed at advancing regional economic development and integration.
Key agenda items include an update from the SACU Council of Ministers on the implementation and mid-term review of the SACU Strategic Plan of 2022-2027, reflections on emerging global developments and their impact on SACU economies, and a report on the reimagined SACU and its future direction.
The presidency highlighted that the summit will provide an opportunity for member states to assess progress in areas such as industrialisation, regional value chains, customs modernisation, trade facilitation, investment promotion, and opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Furthermore, the summit presents an important opportunity for Namibia to advocate for a SACU that is adaptive to Africa's evolving financial and economic landscape while remaining relevant and responsive to the needs and aspirations of its member states.
Namibia will continue to champion a forward-looking SACU that deepens regional economic integration and strengthens trade cooperation across the region.
