The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) has called for stronger collaboration among all data producers and users to improve the country's statistical system.
Namibia Statistics Agency Statistician-General Alex Shimuafeni said producing quality statistics is a shared responsibility that requires effective coordination across the National Statistical System.
Shimuafeni further highlighted that the agency remains committed to working with stakeholders to build a modern and responsive statistical system capable of meeting the country's growing data needs.
“The National Strategy for the Development of Statistics serves as a road map to strengthening our statistical system. It provides a framework to improve statistical production, enhance data quality, promote the use of innovative data sources and technologies, build institutional capacities, and foster greater coordination among data producers and users.”
Speaking at a regional high-level sensitisation session, the |Khomas Governor, Sam Nujoma, stressed that countries that produce, analyse and use reliable data are better equipped to address development challenges and improve the lives of their citizens.
Nujoma further emphasised that growing demand for quality statistics is driven by Namibia's national development plans, the United Nations Agenda 2030, and the African Union's Agenda 2063, all of which require timely, quality, and disaggregated data for planning, monitoring, and reporting.
“The National Strategy for the Development of Statistics is a strategic framework intended to correct this, to strengthen our statistical system, and to ensure that the right data reaches the right people at the right time. It is built on four goals: the better use of statistics in policy, planning, and decision-making."
City of Windhoek Mayor Sakarias Uunona reaffirmed the city's commitment to supporting a stronger national statistical system, saying reliable data is essential for informed decision-making, accountability, and ensuring that no one is left behind.
“The City of Windhoek strongly believes that quality statistics are the foundation of effective governance. When we correct and analyse the reliable data, we are able to understand the needs of the communities, allocate resources more efficiently, monitor developmental progress, improve transparency and accountability, and ensure that no one is left behind.”
