Oshakati Mayor Leonard Hango says the establishment of his council's traffic law enforcement unit is aimed at promoting responsible road users' behaviour, protecting lives, improving traffic flow and ensuring that Oshakati remains a safe, orderly and well-managed town for residents, businesses and visitors alike.

Hango says the new unit will play a key role in enforcing traffic regulations, enhancing public safety and fostering a culture of compliance among motorists.

The launch reaffirms council's commitment to working hand in hand with all stakeholders in advancing road safety and delivering quality public services to the community. 

"Today's occasion represents the fulfilment of a strategic commitment made by the Oshakati Town Council when the council adopted its five-year strategic plan, 2022-2027. One of the strategic priorities identified was the establishment of a dedicated traffic law enforcement unit to strengthen road safety, improve traffic management and support orderly urban development as Oshakati continues to grow as the commercial centre of the north."

Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge says the initiative symbolises a significant milestone in the region's collective efforts to promote road safety.

"In addition to regulating traffic, this unit will play a critical role in enforcing the town council by-laws, thereby promoting compliance with municipal regulations on issues such as illegal parking, street trading, sanitation, public nuisance, environmental cleanliness and responsible use of public spaces." 

The Roads Authority Acting Regional Manager for the Transport Inspectorate is Selma Hedimbi.

"I encourage every road user to obey traffic laws, respect other road users, wear seatbelts, avoid distracted and impaired driving and always drive responsibly."
