||Kharas Governor Dawid Gertze has proposed that staff retention in the region be looked into, as it affects service delivery.
 
He made the call while addressing Bethanie residents on his final regional tour stop over the weekend.
 
Gertze paid a courtesy visit to the Bethanie Village Council, where councillors and staff briefed him on key capital projects.
 
This includes road grading and housing, as well as challenges such as the dumpsite, sewage, and the lack of banking facilities, especially in Kosis.
 
Gertze said staff retention stands out as the most pressing concern.
 
"Then we are sitting at home while experiencing a human resource deficit in this region. I think something needs to be done about this because it weakens service delivery. It also demonstrates to us that people are not sincere about assisting us to deliver services in the offices and institutions where we are serving. This is a trend I observed in the region, and unfortunately, I do not support it. I am putting that on record.”

Gertze also expressed concern over the low turnout of young people at government outreach programmes.
 
"When we make these attempts to visit regions, settlements, villages and towns in our quest to bring services to our people and to inform them about available opportunities, the youth simply do not turn up. Yet, they claim they are neglected. For me, I think that claim no longer stands, because you are avoiding events where you actually matter and where opportunities are being presented to you.”
 
Going forward, Gertze said he will support the Village Council in addressing issues raised.
