The Ministry of Works and Transport's NATIS-On-Wheels outreach has helped residents of Kongola Constituency to access services within their reach.

Residents would normally receive services at Katima Mulilo, which is 110 kilometres away at a cost of N$220 on a return trip.

"We are offering services such as learner licences. Those who want to apply for a learner's licence, it is a computerised system. You do your test and get your results immediately. We are also renewing driver's licences; we are also renewing discs. If your car disc has expired, you can pop in here so that we renew your disc. We also offer a service of GP, professional authorisation. If you want to acquire a professional authorisation on your driver's licences, you can make a turn here," says Thomas Mulele, an examiner at NATIS Katima Mulilo.

Kongola Constituency Councillor Bennetty Busihu welcomed the outreach.

"We really appreciate the turnout of the youth. The database that we have in Kongola is 176 people who have registered in order to take these essential documents, and normally we used to go to Katima Mulilo to acquire these services, and when you quantify the 176 members who want to apply, we have saved N$80,000, so that means a lot, and these are the services that we really want our government to bring to the people."

Busihu added that stakeholders contributed over N$6,000 in helping residents with application costs for learner's licences.

Despite some applicants not passing the learner's licence test on their first attempt, residents remain encouraged to make use of the opportunity.

The outreach will run until Saturday, before moving on to Linyanti on Sunday.
