Following a recent outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) in the Karasburg Veterinary District of the ||Kharas Region, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, through the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS), has released Veterinary Public Notification No. 16 of 2026. 

This directive outlines a significant, science-backed breakthrough: thanks to advanced livestock traceability, the disease remains strictly localised to the ||Kharas region. 

As a result, the government has announced a partial lifting of countrywide movement restrictions for cloven-hoofed animals and their products, bringing much-needed relief to farmers and retailers North and South of the Veterinary Cordon Fence (VCF).
