The management of the national broadcaster, NBC has paid a courtesy visit to the Grootfontein Municipality to explore ways of strengthening collaboration, improving local news coverage and promoting the town's development opportunities.

Mayor of Grootfontein Moritz Geingob commended the relationship between the municipality and the NBC office in Otjiwarongo, in promoting the local authority to potential investors.

“So we believe if we lobby investors, it goes along with employment opportunities for our people. So that is the area we are mostly concentrating on, so that we can create employment opportunities for the people of Grootfontein.”

Acting Chief Executive Officer Indileni Lungameni called for a formal agreement to strengthen the existing relationship and improve how Grootfontein's stories are communicated to the public.

“We have been thankful to NBC for covering most of our stories. Even when you call them on short notice, they are always on standby to come cover us. I think it will be appropriate that we meet and strategise how we tell the story of Grootfontein to the community and the entire Namibia better.”

NBC Director General Menesia Muinjo echoed the call for closer cooperation, emphasising that the broadcaster's role extends beyond television news.

The visit comes as Grootfontein seeks to attract investment, create employment and ensure that its development priorities receive greater public attention through media coverage.
