President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will seek to strengthen Namibia's economic ties with Russia, with a focus on investment, mineral beneficiation, industrialisation and technology transfer.
Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah will participate in the Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow from 28 to 29 October 2026.
In a statement, the Presidency said Namibia will use the high-level gathering to pursue practical partnerships that support job creation, economic diversification and skills development, while safeguarding the country's economic interests.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah is also expected to participate in key engagements on Russia-Africa cooperation and attend the plenary session.
The Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum will also take place alongside the Summit, providing opportunities for dialogue, investment and knowledge exchange in sectors including agriculture, healthcare, education, technology and energy.
Namibia and Russia established diplomatic relations on 21 March 1990, the day Namibia gained independence.
Their relations are rooted in historical solidarity, including the support extended by the former Soviet Union during Namibia's liberation struggle.
Since independence, the statement adds, the two countries have maintained cooperation in sectors such as mining, energy, agriculture, education, science and technology, healthcare, tourism and defence.
The Namibia-Russia Inter-governmental Commission on Trade and Economic Co-operation remains a key mechanism for advancing bilateral relations with its 11th session, held in Windhoek in March 2026, having explored opportunities to expand trade, investment and development cooperation.
The Summit, to be held under the theme "For Peace, Security and Development," will bring together Heads of State and Government, regional organisations, business leaders, experts and academics to discuss economic cooperation, trade, investment, food security, energy, digital transformation and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
