The Outjo Municipality says it continues to be challenged in terms of water provision in the town due to low water pressure.

Mayor Johannes Bapello delivered his 2022 mayor's report at Outjo.

Bapello reports that the water level has been declining due to poor rainfall, and as such, the council has embarked on drilling new boreholes and plans to deepen existing ones through the 'Droom vir Outjo' initiative.

"We have a serious problem with water, but at present, slowly but surely, it is being worked on. That is what the council is really trying to push for and do. It all comes down to how motivated we are to move forward and how focused we are on achieving positive results for the duration of our term as elected councilors."

The report also points out concerns about poor water and sewer infrastructure, vandalized standpipes at Etoshapoort, and a lack of personnel in the council's emergency department.

Bapello is happy with the progress made in terms of road upgrades, the sports stadium, the completion of the town's legacy center, and the formalization of the Etoshapoort informal settlement, where 40 plots have been formalized at Camp 60.

Plans for a solar plant in the town are also in the works, which it is hoped will address the high cost of electricity for residents.
