Preparations are underway at the Rundu Trade Fair Centre for the scheduled return to school tomorrow, of learners who failed to get timely placement in the Rundu Circuit.
More than 7 00 learners in Grades 8, 9 and 10 are set to commence classes on Monday.
The learners in the Rundu Circuit who failed to secure school placement have been at home for almost four weeks now.
Last week, authorities vowed that they would be able to join their peers in class, by tomorrow.
Classes were delayed due to the lack of tents and other teaching and learning materials.
The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture began setting up the tents, to be used as additional classrooms, on Friday.
The Acting Deputy Director of Education, Arts and Culture, Muhongo Mateya said they are at the site to put up tents where learners that were not placed in the Rundu Circuit will have classes as of Monday next week, "this whole week we had some preparations, learners registered because we wanted to know the number of Grade 8, 9 and 10 learners that were not placed, that we can put in the tents we have here, the tents were acquired from the Office of the Prime Minister and they are 20 in total and we are still waiting for the one that we have to procured through the Regional Council."
Mateya says the tents are just a temporary arrangement.
Construction of the actual school is set to begin later this year.
He says they are yet to award the construction tender.
Mateya says the school will have at least 21 staff members, though so far only 12 teachers have volunteered.
"Arrangements are made, and teachers will transfer from some schools on a voluntary basis, we only put in a request for those that would want to transfer to this school, and we got a number that will start as of Monday, the principal is already here, he is around observing the situation and we are pleased with the furniture we have, chairs and desks available to be used as of Monday but we are still waiting for another consignment of chairs that we have procured through the Regional Council."
Mateya says teaching materials such as textbooks are still to be secured.
He says parents will be required to contribute materials, such as photocopy paper while they await the procurement of textbooks.
Mateya says learner registration is ongoing and they expect 730 learners to return to school tomorrow, not more than a thousand as earlier reported.
