Kavango East Education Directorate awards tenders for construction of classrooms

The Kavango East Education Directorate has awarded tenders worth more than N$18 million for the construction of classrooms.

Of late the Rundu Circuit has been experiencing a shortage of classrooms leading to overcrowding with some learners being taught in tents. 

A three-classroom block will now be constructed at the Rundu Project School, where learners are currently being taught in tents while a four-classroom block will be built at Siguruguru Primary School.

Infrastructure does not have an impact on teaching and learning- Wakudumo

The Governor of the Kavango East Region, Bonifatius Wakudumo, is of the view that infrastructure does not have an impact on teaching and learning, as those taught under temporary structures could produce great results.

Wakudumo said this when he visited the Rundu Project School.

The Rundu Project School was recently established due to a lack of classes to accommodate all the learners in the Rundu circuit.

There are about 600 grade eight, nine, and ten learners who could not be placed in various formal schools.

Preparations are underway at the Rundu Trade Fair Centre for the scheduled return to school tomorrow, of learners who failed to get timely placement in the Rundu Circuit.

More than 7 00 learners in Grades 8, 9 and 10 are set to commence classes on Monday.

The learners in the Rundu Circuit who failed to secure school placement have been at home for almost four weeks now.

Last week, authorities vowed that they would be able to join their peers in class, by tomorrow. 

Classes were delayed due to the lack of tents and other teaching and learning materials.

Rundu education circuit promises solution to placement crisis

Desperate parents from across the country have flocked to schools in the hopes of finding a place for their children.

More than 1,000 students in the Rundu Circuit who did not receive school placement will begin school in one week.

The Director of Education, Arts, and Culture in the Kavango East Region, Fanuel Kapapero, addressed learners and parents at Rundu Secondary School on the way forward.

Kapapero assured parents that a solution had been found.
