The University of Namibia (UNAM) has refused to release the names of students who have been accepted to its School of Medicine and School of Surgery programs.

UNAM launched an internal investigation on Wednesday into allegations that it bases admissions to the school on tribal lines.

When probed for comment, UNAM did not deny or confirm the allegations, instead saying that a statement would be issued once the investigations were completed.

It stated that personal and confidential student information may not be released without the expressed permission of the individual students.

The university says that the media requests could be a safety risk for the students.

The matter of establishing all the facts is tedious as it requires information from different sources, hence the delay, said the university.
