President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says Namibia will keep pushing for the unconditional lifting of the embargo while citizens mobilise humanitarian support for the Cuban people.

Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has paid tribute to Cuban national hero José Martí during his official visit to Cuba.

Dr Ngurare also pushed for stronger cooperation between Namibia and Cuba in education, health, youth development, water and engineering.

Namibia and Cuba have reaffirmed their long-standing solidarity and historic friendship as the two countries marked the 73rd Moncada Day commemoration, with a procession through Windhoek culminating at the Fidel Castro Primary School.

The campaign is aimed at raising funds for the Cuban people who continue to face a humanitarian crisis due to tightened United States sanctions.

The Landless Peoples Movement (LPM) expressed concern over the humanitarian and socio-economic crisis in Cuba.

The party highlighted issues of food insecurity, medicine shortages and civil rights repression.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held an additional debate on Tuesday regarding the necessity of ending the US blockade on Cuba, despite efforts by the United States to obstruct the discussion.

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has pledged support for the Namibia National Solidarity Campaign for Cuba, an initiative aimed at mobilising funds to purchase medical supplies and solar panels.

The broadcaster made the announcement during a meeting with the committee members.
