Prof. Peter Katjavivi proposes motion on Cuba in National Assembly

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Peter Katjavivi, has put forth a motion on Cuba in parliament. 

Katjavivi made this proposal on Thursday during a meeting with the newly accredited Cuban Ambassador to Namibia, Sergio Vigoa de la Uz. 
The Ambassador commended Namibia for its unwavering support in calling for the lifting of the United States' embargo against Cuba.

Ambassador De la Uz highlighted the adverse effects of the protracted embargo on Cuba's economy, leading to constant shortages of food and essential commodities such as oil.

Students in Cuba unhappy with monthly stipends provided by NSFAF

Some students studying in Cuba under the Cuban-funded scholarship say they face an ongoing issue in terms of inadequate monthly stipends paid to them.

The prices of goods and services have significantly risen, they say, making it increasingly difficult to make ends meet on the current stipend provided through the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund scholarship (NSFAF).

Currently, seven students receive a monthly stipend from NSFAF.

The stipend amount is set at N$2,000, which is slightly over US$130 per month.

Namibia will continue to advocate for the lifting of sanctions and economic blockade on Venezuela, Cuba and Zimbabwe by the USA.

President Hage Geingob says the affected countries are trying their best to develop and appealed for humanity to prevail.

Dr. Geingob reiterated Namibia's position when he met the visiting Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Relations, Yvan Gil Pinto, and the delegation at State House.

Namibia remains steadfast in its calls for the US to lift the six decades economic blockade on Cuba.

President Hage Geingob reiterated the country's position during a farewell courtesy visit by Cuba's outgoing Head of Mission at the State House.

The more than 60-year-old blockade prevents US businesses from conducting trade with companies with Cuban interests, which is enforced through a number of US laws.
