UN General Assembly underway

The UN General Assembly has started with renewed calls for reform of multilateral institutions, including the UN Security Council, in line with the changing socio-economic and political landscape of the world.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres pleaded with the member states to be determined to tackle the most immediate threat to humanity and the planet’s future.

The UN Chief observed that the world seems incapable of coming together and agreeing on mutual solutions, despite the move towards a multi-polar world.

Schlettwein calls for UN coordination in water management

The Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Carl Schlettwein calls for UN coordination in water management. 

The minister said the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres should create a position within the UN that takes responsibility for water.

Schlettwein who is attending the UN 2023 Water Conference in New York, said during an interview that the UN Secretary-General was approached by the Bonn Water Dialogues Key messages supporters to create a position within the UN that would be responsible for water and fill the coordination gap.

President Geingob consults with UN Secretary-General ahead of AU meeting in Ethiopia

President Hage Geingob held consultations with the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, ahead of the African Union Peace and Security Council meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The meeting was to discuss the situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo within the broader context of the Peace, Security, and Cooperation Framework for the DRC and the region, including the deployment of the Eastern African Force.
