President Nangolo Mbumba has called on potential investors to explore opportunities in ammonia and fertiliser production in Namibia and elsewhere across the African continent.

The Head of State addressed the opening session of the Africa Fertiliser and Soil Health Summit underway in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

Lüderitz is positioned to become Namibia's energy capital because of emerging industries such as green hydrogen, oil, and gas in the southern coastal town and surrounding areas. 

Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said this when she officially opened the annual Lüderitz Crayfish Festival. 

Since its inception in 2008, the Crayfish Festival has become a cherished annual event, uniting locals and visitors alike in the celebration of culture, economy, and community spirit. 

Namibia's press freedom rankings dropped to second place in Africa and to 34th position from 22 globally.

Mauritania now ranks first in Africa.

This is according to the latest annual World Press Freedom Index produced by Reporters Without Borders.

The World Press Freedom Index indicates the political and legislative environment in Namibia remains conducive to the free exercise of journalism.

The Cross-Border Road Transport Agency's CEO, Lwazi Mboyi, says the governments of Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa have emphasised the need to work together to realise Africa's integration.

Mboyi made these remarks during the 20th anniversary of the Trans Kalahari Corridor Secretariat (TKCS) held at Swakopmund.

The transport and trade corridor, Mboyi says, advances the collective ambition of linking Africa, ensuring economic growth, and promoting trade.

A group of cyclists from Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa have undertaken a 1,800-kilometre ride to raise awareness about the significance of the Trans-Kalahari Corridor (TKC). 

The cycling initiative is a first step towards the elimination of tariff barriers erected at borders and within countries. 

The team embarked on this journey from Rustenburg in South Africa to Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region. 

The Minister of Mines and Energy says Namibia complies with environmental laws in the process of oil and gas exploration.

Tom Alweendo was responding to questions about environmental destruction during exploration at the Namibia International Energy Conference in Windhoek.

Minister Alweendo says those who speak about environmental destruction are always speaking from their comfort zone without knowing the reality on the ground.

While adhering to environmental laws, the country, he says, seeks to better the lives of its people through the discovery of oil and gas.

President Nangolo Mbumba has applauded Germany's commitment to the realisation of the Green Hydrogen project and programme in Namibia. 

Dr. Mbumba met with the Energy Envoy of Germany, Rainer Baake, at State House.

The German government has been supporting Namibia's Green Hydrogen programme through funding for private companies to develop projects in different parts of the country.

One such is the company HyIron, established through a partnership of Namibian and German companies that work in the field of renewable energies and engineering. 

At least 30 schools in Windhoek celebrated World Earth Day with a call to action to protect the environment and the world.

The celebration of Earth Day holds significance as Namibia is known for its unique ecosystems.

This year, the day was celebrated under the theme Planet vs. Plastics.

Enviromentalist Fransina Kalumbu pointed out the importance of acknowledging environmental issues and promoting sustainable practices.

First Lady Sustjie Mbumba hosted a high-level Roundtable Discussion on inequalities, HIV, TB, Malaria, and Pandemics at State House on Friday.

During the opening of the discussion, Madame Mbumba encouraged individuals and organisations to speak out against inequality or injustice.

The First Lady says that there can be no rest until equality is achieved.

The European Union (EU) in Namibia has injected more than N$300 million into early childhood development (ECD) centres around the country. 

EU Ambassador to Namibia Ana Beatriz Martins made the announcement during the launch of the programme at Mix Settlement, on the outskirts of Windhoek. 

N$262 million will go to the Treasury, and N$60 million will go towards technical assistance, including support actions implemented by Unicef and the World Food Programme.
