Zambezi Region will never be a state

Residents of the Judea Lyaboloma Constituency held a demonstration against attempts to secede the Zambezi Region as well as cases of tribalism in the region.

Another such demonstration was held recently by the Bukalo Traditional Authority.

Reading the petition, the group spokesperson, Boniface Makumbi, warned against division and a repeat of secession attempts in the region.

"We want peace, unity, stability, and development, not war. We emerged from a bitter liberation war, and the consequences were death and displacement. We don't want to be refugees."

Swapo Party stands in solidarity with Palestine

A petition read by the Swapo Party's Secretary for External Relations, Dr. Peya Mushelenga, to the United Nations calls upon the international body on peace and security to intensify its voice and act decisively to apply pressure on Israel to stop the killings of the people of Palestine.

High Court Amendment Bill receives parliamentary support

Debate on the High Court Amendment Bill continued in the National Assembly, with various MPs in support of the bill.

The bill seeks to give equal rights to litigants' in-house or immovable property repossession cases.

Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) MP Vipuakuje Muharukua, one of those who supported the bill, however, warned people to be cautious of who they choose to represent them and not be taken advantage of.

Swapo Party Vice President and the party's next presidential candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says there is a need to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor.

This, she says, is done by adding value to the country's resources and creating more jobs locally.

Omusati police engages political parties ahead of 2024 general elections

Commissioner Basson says that with the upcoming 2024 general elections, they found it necessary to inform and educate each other on political tolerance in the Omusati Region in the hope of avoiding clashes between their members.

Gender parity causes upset in Zambezi

The Swapo Party regional office in Zambezi was a scene of unhappiness after some members were left upset over the changed outcome of the district elections held last month.

The unhappiness surfaced after a directive to follow the political party's 50-50 gender representation policy following last month's elections for the positions of district information and mobilisation officer, district coordinator, and treasurer in the Katima Mulilo urban district.

Former Plan Combatants Association gears up for 2024 elections

The 2024 elections may still be a while off, but political and other interested parties are already changing gears in preparation.

The Former Plan Combatants Association (FPCA) is among those that have already begun strategising to ensure that the Swapo Party attains a two-thirds majority in the upcoming 2024 general elections.


The association held a workshop aimed at designing an effective campaign strategy and improving coordination across its regional and district structures.

Paulus Dumeni buried

A veteran of the liberation struggle, Paulus Dumeni, was buried at the Eenhana Omafo cemetery in Ohangwena Region.

He was conferred an official funeral by President Geingob, who described him as a compassionate person and a useful man of purpose.

Dumeni was born in 1946 and died on May 8, 2023, at Engela district hospital in the Ohangwena Region.

The late Dumeni began his revolutionary activities at a young age when he joined the Swapo Party in 1960.
