LPM's Paul Isaak presents motion for the allocation of land

The Landless People's Movement (LPM) MP Paul Isaak presented a motion for the allocation of land to address the pressing issue of housing for the urban poor and landless citizens in Namibia.

Isaak expressed gratitude for the opportunity to discuss this matter that touches the lives of all Namibians. 

He emphasised housing as a fundamental human right, citing the National Housing Policy and the pivotal role of the National Housing Enterprise in realising this right.

Motion to address high crime rate referred for investigation

The motion, put forth by Mike Venaani of the Popular Democratic Movement's (PDM), to address Namibia's high crime rate, has been referred to the parliamentary standing committee for further investigation.

Highlighting the severity of rising crime in the country, members of the National Assembly called for a collaborative effort to identify effective solutions to secure a safer environment for all citizens.

Nudo MP withdraws motion on elections

NUDO MP Josef Kauandenge has withdrawn his motion, which sort of contests the Constitution on the exclusion of or forces civil servants, regional councillors, and local councillors to resign if they want to stand for the National Assembly elections.

Kauandenge withdrew the motion following consultations with the Minister of Justice.

 

Venaani tables motion to honour Kaptein Hendrik Witbooi

The Popular Democratic Movement President McHenry Venaani has tabled a motion seeking to erect a shrine at the Vaalgras in honour of the late Kaptein Hendrik !Anseb Witbooi. 

Venaani said the erection of a lighting shrine would not only serve as a perpetual beacon for Namibians, but it would also improve the area's economic well-being.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Peter Katjavivi, has put forth a motion on Cuba in parliament. 

Katjavivi made this proposal on Thursday during a meeting with the newly accredited Cuban Ambassador to Namibia, Sergio Vigoa de la Uz. 
The Ambassador commended Namibia for its unwavering support in calling for the lifting of the United States' embargo against Cuba.

Ambassador De la Uz highlighted the adverse effects of the protracted embargo on Cuba's economy, leading to constant shortages of food and essential commodities such as oil.

One of the points of contention emerged when a motion on same-sex marriage, originally slated for discussion on Tuesday, was reportedly unexpectedly removed and rescheduled by Speaker Professor Peter Katjavivi.

This decision immediately sparked backlash from Swapo MP Jerry Ekandjo, the initiator of the motion, who argued against its withdrawal, stating that the motion should proceed as planned.
