CoW plants stolen

The City of Windhoek (CoW) has expressed concern over the theft of newly planted flowers, trees, and shrubs around the city.

There has always been a feeling that the western side of the capital city is neglected.

But in recent times, the City of Windhoek has been on a campaign to transform the western side, and Arbor Day was yet another transformation.

The municipality planted these flowers, trees, and shrubs—the greenery that beautified Independence Avenue.

|Khomanin Traditional Authority demands to meet CoW's leadership

The |Khomanin Traditional Authority stormed the City of Windhoek Council Chambers on Thursday afternoon, demanding to meet the city's political and administrative leadership.

The delegation, headed by the |Khomanin Gaos, Juliane Gawa!Nas, made record gains when they entered the council chambers at will.

There was no one in the chambers at the time, but it did not matter because they had all the time in the world to drive their message home.

CoW once again without Management Committee

Windhoek is once again without a management committee after a special meeting to elect office bearers was called off due to a lack of quorum.

According to City Mayor, Joseph Uapingene, "This morning, the Minister sent me a letter saying congratulations on your meeting today and please take note that I will also give you a chance until the 3rd of March, so I hope by then you will put your house in order. My last attempt will now be to call all councilors together so that we can sit and perhaps clear some of these misunderstandings and pave the way forward."

Legal row between Chief Kanime and CoW continues in Windhoek High Court

A going legal row between Chief of the City Police Abraham Kanime and the City Council continued in the Windhoek High Court.

The council wants the City Police Chief to repay salaries paid to him by the municipality since his re-appointment in May 2020.

The Windhoek City Council in its court papers is demanding that Kanime pay back about six-comma-eight million dollars.

These include all salary payments, 13th cheques, as well as monthly housing and car allowances paid to him when he was allegedly appointed unlawfully.

Roads Authority board extends employment contract of Lutombi for another three years

The Board of the Roads Authority has decided to extend the employment contract of Chief Executive Officer Conrad Lutombi for another three years.

The three-year extension is also to allow for the recruitment process to commence timely and facilitate a smooth handover once Lutombi retires.

The extension also comes barely weeks after Lutombi was offered the top job at City Windhoek, whose package he said he was studying at the time.

City of Windhoek to hold Municipal Council's elections on 1 December

The City of Windhoek has announced that it will hold the Municipal Council's elections on 1 December.

Positions of office bearers, including the Mayor and members of the Management Committee, will be for the year 2023.

The city is led by a coalition council,  with LPM Councillor, Sade Gawa!nas as mayor and AR Councillor Ilse Keister as the chairperson of the Management Committee.

 The council will elect new leadership at 14h30 in the Council Chamber on Friday.

City of Windhoek employees and others ditch vehicles in commemoration of 'Car-Free Day'

September 22  is International "Car-Free" Day, aimed at raising awareness of air pollution and its impact, not only on people's health but also on the environment. 

To mark this day, some City of Windhoek employees, accompanied by representatives of local corporate companies, parked their vehicles in Khomasdal and walked, jogged or cycled for more than 5km to town.
 
Seasoned fitness fanatics and amateurs alike all exchanged their vehicles for physical activity.

It didn't matter if you ran, jogged or cycled, as long as you just weren't driving.
