Swapo Party Central Committee convenes amidst leadership transition

The Swapo Party Central Committee's first meeting for 2024 started in the capital this morning.

The party's Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who addressed the meeting, says the nation and Swapo Party are poorer without the visionary leadership of the late President Hage Geingob.

Geingob was the party's president at the time of his death.

Nandi-Ndaitwah said some possible challenges on how to move forward without Dr. Hage Geingob were identified.

Berseba constituents urged to take ownership of government funded projects

The Regional Councillor for Berseba Constituency, Jeremia Goeieman, has called on constituents to take ownership of government-funded socio-economic development projects and programmes implemented to improve livelihoods.

He made the call during the constituency's Community Development Committee meeting at Berseba.

The Community Development Committee is an important governance structure that spearheads the development of a given constituency.

Reminding CDC members of their responsibilities, Goeieman directed them to spearhead the constituency's development agenda.

Five men arrested for holding illegal UDP meeting appear in Katima Mulilo Magistrate's Court

Five men who were arrested for holding an illegal meeting of the United Democratic Party (UDP) appeared in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate's Court.

They were all released on bail of N$10,000 each with conditions to surrender their travel documents to the investigating officer and not acquire new ones while on bail.

Harris Mushe (41), Benjamin Kubona (68), Christopher Ziambo (56), Ben Kumpoma (53), and Mubonda Mubonda (57) told the court that they would conduct their own defence after their rights to legal representation were explained to them.

United Democratic Party banned from holding meetings in Namibia

The police in the Zambezi Region have reminded the public that the United Democratic Party (UDP) is still banned from holding meetings in Namibia.

The government banned the UDP in September 2007, after the party was accused of advocating the secession of the then-Caprivi Region from the rest of Namibia.

Zambezi's NamPol Regional Commander Commissioner, Andreas Shilelo, warned residents in Zambezi Region not to organise or attend UDP meetings.

NUDO leader stresses the party is not only for OvaHerero community

Namibians need to understand that NUDO is not only for the OvaHerero community. 

Its leader Dr. Utjiua Muinjangue said this at the first NUDO National Council Youth League meeting.

The meeting aims to discuss and provide solutions to challenges facing young people as well as matters pertaining to the development of the country.

Dr. Muinjangue in her address implored Namibians to join the party, adding, NUDO is a home for all.

She reminded members wishing to leave the party that every house has its own problems and that divorce is not a solution.

Poor attendance of parents at meetings on education disappoints Swakopmund Mayor

The Mayor of Swakopmund, Dina Namubes, is disappointed by the poor attendance of parents at meetings on education.

Namubes and other leaders said the poor attendance shows a lack of parental involvement in their children's education.

Half of the seats in the multipurpose hall of Mondesa Swakopmund were empty because parents did not show up in numbers at a parent's education conference.

The conference is an initiative of the Swakopmund municipality, and it was aimed at boosting collaboration with parents on the education of children.

Urban Minister gives Windhoek Municipal Council deadline to settle differences

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni has given the Municipal Council of Windhoek until March to sort out their differences and complete the process of electing members of the Management Committee.

Uutoni held a meeting with the Councillors on Thursday, after which they agreed to convene on the 9th of February.

But, the Minister says he is cautious with their deadline as he observed that the Councillors are still divided over who should serve on the Management Committee.


 

SADC Parliamentary Forum focuses on fostering administrative efficiency

Fostering administrative efficiency. This is the discussion currently underway at the SADC Parliamentary Forum meeting, underway in Windhoek.

The two-day forum will also focus on the orientation of new executive committee members and the inauguration of a board.

The orientation was necessitated by the election of a new president for the forum - Speaker of the National Assembly of Seychelles, Roger Mancienne.

Government is yet to receive response from Germany on genocide's proposed amendment - Mbumba

The Namibian government is yet to receive a response from Germany on the proposed amendment to the joint declaration on the 1904–1908 genocide.

Vice President Nangolo Mbumba, who is also the Chairperson of the Special Political Cabinet Committee on Genocide, Apology, and Reparations, briefed the media on the meeting of the Chiefs Forum, held last week.
