TIP seeks to provide supportive environment for youth

The Talented Individuals Programme (TIP) under the One Economy Foundation seeks to provide a supportive environment for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The intention is to structurally reduce entrenched inequality of opportunity by providing funding and mentorship support to young people throughout their secondary education.

As part of the support structure, each fellow will be assigned a mentor, handpicked by the One Economy Foundation.

First Lady Monica Geingos said the mentorship programme is essential for the guidance of the fellows.

First Lady Monica Geingos extends condolences to the Kangungu family

First Lady Monica Geingos has extended condolences on behalf of her family to the Kangungu family, who lost 13 family members after they consumed poisonous mahangu pap.

Geingos described the incident as heartbreaking and devastating, saying, "I pray for the lives of those who remain hospitalised. I speak in unison with many Namibians in expressing my heartfelt condolences to Mr. Godfried Shishugho Kangungu and the entire Kangungu family during this period of unspeakable grief."

Celebrating Namibia's First Ladies

In the olden days, First Ladies or companions of presidents were simply regarded as trophy wives.

But nowadays they have become influential in the inner circle of the Presidency. 

A black-and-white picture from before independence shows the image of the couple who would become Namibia's first citizens.

On March 21, 1990, Namibia celebrated its independence, and Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma took an oath as the country's first president.

SPWC holds Central Committee meeting in Outapi

The Swapo Party Women's Council (SPWC) Central Committee held its meeting at Outapi.

Officially opening the meeting, First Lady Monica Geingos also launched the Swapo Party Women's Council Research and Advisory Cadre Committee.

Geingos explained that members of the SPWC Research and Advisory Committee are expected to lead by example and ensure the Council produces high-quality research for women to take informed positions and decisions on complex issues.

First Ladies, Geingos and Biden inspire the youth

The First Ladies of Namibia and the US, Monica Geingos and Jill Biden, have joined forces to inspire and empower young people to take on leadership roles and embrace democracy.

Their message was clear: the future belongs to the youth, and they must be prepared to take on the challenges that lie ahead.

Speaking at a youth empowerment forum at the Namibian University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Windhoek, the two First Ladies urged young people to break free from the constraints that hold them back and to embrace a commitment to excel in all areas of life.

America's First Lady Dr Jill Biden to visit Namibia

First Lady Monica Geingos announced that U.S First Lady Jill Biden will travel to Namibia on Wednesday.

Dr. Biden’s visit will strengthen the United States’ partnerships on the African continent, and advance shared priorities in the region.

The U.S. First Lady’s engagements will focus on the empowerment of women and youth, efforts to address food insecurity, and promoting shared democratic values.

The visit follows the U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit held last year where Dr. Biden hosted a two-day spousal engagement
