President Hage Geingob opened the first Cabinet meeting for the year, reminding the Executive not to put personal interests above service delivery and to refrain from working in isolation from public needs.

A group of residents at Katima Mulilo in Zambezi staged a demonstration, demanding land delivery from the Town Council.

The demonstrators are also accusing the Town Council of allegedly failing to implement development projects promised during the elections.

"Unnecessary suspension of employees became rife here in Katima Mulilo Town Council, the delay of interview results, resulting in the appointment of any staff to occupy department positions which they or one does not qualify for."

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa Amadhila is in the Ohangwena Region to assess the delivery of public services to the community.

In Eenhana, she was briefed about water shortages in some villages in the region, as well as matters relating to sanitation, education, health, information and communication technology, and poor road infrastructure.

Discussions centred around the provision of water to villages with serious shortages.
